Pine Gap is one of the largest military bases in the world and, according to the available documentation, exists as a satellite tracking station. Shared between Australia and the US, it is officially known as a 'Joint Defence Space Research Facility'. However, neither the Australian public nor the government can acquire full access to it or the information it collects. So 'joint' in this sense is uncomfortably akin to joint custody - it sounds fair until you find one party only gets access every second weekend.'
