  • At our tenth meeting and second for 2020, we'll be discussing 232: The Last Day of Freedom 2020, a podcast hosted, produced and curated by Lorna Munro. This session will be facilitated by Evelyn Araluen - poet, researcher and co-editor of Overland Literary Journal.

    232: The Last Day of Freedom 2020 was the second annual special broadcast of 232 minutes representing 232 years of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander survival in the colonial project. You can listen to 232: The Last Day of Freedom 2020 on Soundcloud.

    Lorna Munro, or 'Yilinhi', is a Wiradjuri and Gamilaroi woman, multidisciplinary artist and regular radio and podcast host at Sydney's 'Radio Skid Row'.

  • Evelyn Araluen on AustLit

    Teacher and researcher.

    Born, raised, and writing in Dharug country, Araluen is a descendant of the Bundjalung nation. In 2017, while  working in Indigenous literatures at the University of Sydney, she was the winner of the 2016 Nakata Brophy Prize for Young Indigenous Writers: she had previously been a runner-up for the award in 2015, for 'Learning Bundjalung on Tharawal'. She is also the winner of the Overland Judith Wright Poetry Prize (2017 award, won in 2018).

    In August 2019, Araluen was appointed as one of two new co-editors for Overland, with Jonathan Dunk: the appointments followed the first open advertisement of the magazine's editorship in its 65-year history.
