BiographyHistory

'Professor Leon Piterman is Pro Vice-Chancellor Berwick and Peninsula Campuses and Professor of General Practice at Monash University. Prior to his current appointment as Pro Vice-Chancellor, he has been Head of Department of General Practice, Head of the School of Primary Health Care and Senior Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences at Monash University.

'Leon continues to contribute to general practice education at the Department of General Practice, through post graduate teaching, mentoring and supervision of higher degree students. He was responsible for establishing the Diploma and Masters in Family Medicine which have over the past 2 decades produced over 1400 graduates in Australia and overseas. The text “General Practice Psychiatry” which he co–edited has been translated into Italian and Chinese.

'Leon has published over 150 papers in refereed journals covering topics related to medical education, distance learning, chronic disease management and mental health. He holds Government (NHMRC) and industry grants. He has supervised 26 Masters and Honours students as well as 7 PhD students to successful completion.'
