An advertisement for a clerk 'for a limited time, who has been accustomed to keep newspaper accounts'. The advertisement is dated 1 September 1838. A new advertisement for an accounts clerk, dated 3 September 1838, was published in the 4 September 1838 issue of the Sydney Gazette on page three. Also in the 4 September issue is a death notice for John Montgomery, the 'Chief Clerk' of the Sydney Gazette Office. This event may be linked to the advertisements.

(p. 2)A short column about the benefit for the actor Arthur Falchon. The author (William Kerr?) mentions the plays to be performed and praises Falchon writing that '[w]e have been a pretty constant attendant at the Theatre during the season, and we can safely aver that no actor belonging to the company has more frequently deserved praise, and more seldom blame.'

Advertisement for the benefit performance on 1 September 1838 for Arthur Falchon (active Hobart and Sydney 1837 - 1846) to include a 'powerful Drama, of intense interest, written by Samuel Lover Esq., and performed at the Adelphi Theatre for 170 Nights, with undiminished success, entitled Rory O'More' and the 'serio comic operatic burlesque Burletta, in Two Acts, entitled Othello Travestie'. The advertisement includes a description of the scenes and a list of the actors and the names of the characters they portray for each play. As with most performances, songs are also advertised including 'the celebrated song' Jim Crow and The Peasant Boy '[performed] by a Young Gentleman, his first appearance on any Stage.'
