  • Samuel James Arnold's melodrama The Maid and the Magpie is included in AustLit because it was produced in Australian theatres during the colonial era.
  • According to Allardyce Nicoll the melodrama is a 'version of Caigniez, La pie voleuse; ou, la servante de Palaiseau'.

The performance also included a song 'There's no home like my own' by Mrs Clarke and a Milanese hornpipe by Miss Lazar and a dance by Mr. Fitzgerald.
