— Appears in: Metro Magazine , Autumn vol. 188 no. 2016; (p. 38-43)

— Review of The Principal Kristen Dunphy , Alice Addison , 2015 series - publisher film/TV
This miniseries set within the busy walls of an all-boys highschoolincorporates portrayals of territorial staff, cross-cultural tussles, sexual-orientation politics and even a police investigation following the murder of a student. But, with only four episodes in which to unfold, these otherwise-compelling threads will fall short of tying powerfully together, writes David Crewe.
1 When Fire Turns to Frost : Decay and Detachment in Early Winter David Crewe , 2016 single work essay
— Appears in: Metro Magazine , Winter vol. 189 no. 2016; (p. 14-19)
As writer/director Michael Rowe's third feature shows us, distance need not be physical – even within the confines of the home, fondness and familiarity soon create and emotional crevasse between a long-time couple. In conversation with Rowe, David Crewe explores the pensive, poignant film's depiction of how the slowly growing cold can harrow a once-loving relationship.
1 Special Delivery : Tony Mahony and Angus Sampson's 'The Mule' David Crewe , 2015 single work criticism
— Appears in: Metro Magazine , Autumn no. 184 2015; (p. 12-17)

'Instead of a downtrodden victim dogged by goons and government officials, in 'The Mule' we see a drug smuggler with the guts to 'hold on' and extract himself from his sticky situation. According to David Crewe, the film also reveals some clever cross-genre writing, a commentary on Australian inertia and a keen ability to capitalise on new film-distribution opportunities.'

1 1 Bily Goes to War David Crewe , 2014 single work musical theatre

'This production by the Maleny Players is designed to commemorate the outbreak of WW1 on the date of the Centenary in August this year.

It tells the story of Australia’s involvement in the War from the point of view of a family whose two sons join up and go to fight. It also tells of their aunt who becomes a nurse and sees action on the Western Front.

'The production contains songs of the time, but does not glorify war, in fact it underlines the tragedy and horror of the battle front and the losses at home. ' (Production summary)
