'On New Year's Day the small town of Wollendale in South Australia was threatened by a fire in the surrounding hills. How it escaped and resumed its normal life is told in this programme. The story and its characters are fictitious but are based on actual and recent events in South Australia.'

    Music (solo cornet): arranged by Alan Paul, played by Jack Mackintosh.

    Primary cast members: Bill Kerr (George Harris), Kenneth J. Warren (Constable Vince Maddock), Russell Napier (Ted Schultz), Ken Wayne (Grubber Giles), Bettina Dickson (Sister Patton), Mary O'Farrell (Mrs Reilly), and Wilfrid Thomas (Narrator).

    Other cast members: Beverley Dunn, Gwenda Wilson, Ray Barrett, Walter Brown, Lloyd Lamble, Reg Lye, J. Mark Roberts, and Ralph Peterson.
