Although set in a South American city (in recent times) and with an assassination plot driving the narrative, Martin Friedel's music in Seducation of a General 'avoids almost all trace of Latin American atmosphere,' thereby making 'the plight of the lover-turned revolutionary more universal' (Ewart Shaw).

Notes

  • Seduction of a General was commissioned with funds from the Performing Arts Board of the Australia Council. The first performance, staged as part of a double bill (with Friedel's The Heaven Machine), was made possible by funds from the Performing Arts Board and the Victorian Ministry of the Arts.
  • The 1992 productions used video to present images of dictatorship - terror, grief and torture etc.
