BiographyHistory

Randell Mason had enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) at Katanning on 4 January 1915, his two brothers joined one month later. By June that year he was aboard the HMAT Ascanius A11 bound for Egypt, then Gallipoli. Suffering illnesses during his time there, upon recuperation Randell departed from Alexandria and disembarked at Marseilles, France. Randell had again suffered, illnesses and was hospitalised at Etaples, France, and was evacuated to England on the 7 August and later sent back to Fremantle in December 1916. He had suffered most of his life from the effects of mustard gas.
