BiographyHistory

Arthur McCallum had enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) on the 9 September 1914, and appointed to the 16th Battalion. Later, he was sent to Gallipoli where he had suffered illnesses after surviving the initial assault. On the 26 April McCallum joined the 48th Battalion and travelled to France where he fought in several campaigns. In March 1918 while fighting in France he received gunshot wound to his head, left thigh and hand and was transferred to England. After his recovery he returned to France and joined the 4th Machine Gun Battalion, which he shortly after arrival returned to England in December 1918. McCallum was discharged from the AIF on 17 February 1919.
