BiographyHistory

Garrett Cotter was an Australian convict who from 1822 he lived in the Cotter Valley and River region. In 1843 he received a ticket of leave and worked on Lake George, but after a dispute between his employer and his employer's neighbour was banished to live on the outskirts, west of the Murrumbidgee River. In 1847 Cotter received a pardon and became a squatter in the Michaelago in the Monaro region of New South Wales. the Cotter River in the Australian Capital Territory was named after Garrett Cotter.
