Barrina South is an emerging Koori writer whose family connections extend through north western New South Wales. South has had a strong Visual Arts background exhibiting locally and overseas. Her interest in writing life stories began in 2005 as part of her MA (Hons) thesis where she completed the biography of the late Aunty June Barker and her experiences living on the Brewarrina Mission. The following year, the manuscript was a finalist in the David Unaipon Award at the Queensland Premier’s Literary Awards. South has undertaken a Doctorate in History at the Australian National University focused on Aboriginal women's knowledge and experiences of sites of significance in NSW. She has spent the majority of her working career in the museum and arts sector based in Sydney and  lives and works in Queanbeyan protecting Aboriginal cultural heritage across southern NSW.
