BiographyHistory

Don McInnis was born in America and, by his own estimates, by 1994 had spent more than a third of his life travelling. Following university studies he joined the U.S. Government in Washington, served three and a half years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and then spent some time in Shanghai with the United Nations. After seven years in Honolulu, he joined the U.S. Foreign Aid Program and moved to Manila. After six years of globe-trotting which took him to Guatemala, to Washington again and to Vietnam, he accepted an appointment as U.S. Resident in Korea, serving there until his retirement to Australia in 1974. In retirement McInnis became Asian Representative of a New York consultant firm and continued to travel.

As well as the published works listed, Don McGinnis had a number of his plays performed by Australian theatre companies, including 'Turn O' Libertad' (from March 3rd, 1989 at Through Arts United Community Theatre, Canberra) and 'Sam Goldwyn in Australia' (from June 10th, 1989 at the Bogong Theatre, Canberra). 'Turn O' Libertad' won the TAU Drama Festival prize in 1988.
