BiographyHistory

Florence Catherine Eunice Grant was born in the schoolteacher's cottage on the banks of the Galari Bila (Lachlan River) on the Mission at Condobolin in the late 1930s. Her mother was Josephine Foster/Johnson. Her father was Cecil William Henry (Dago) Grant.

Often on weekends during Grant's childhood, the family would harness up the horse and cart, pack up the children and go to the Eight Mile or Sixteen Mile to visit old Sabrina (Sab), Emily (Emmy) and Harry Weston. Sab and Emmy were tribal Galari/Wiradjuri women and old Harry was said to be an escaped bushranger. Sab was a midwife and delivered babies around the region as far away as Cowra.
