Debra Chandler is a member of the Stolen Generations. Chandler was removed from her family at two years old and fostered out. She was abused as a child and forbidden to contact her birth family. Her mother's frequent attempts to reclaim her were unsuccessful; however, Chandler was reunited with her mother in 1990 just prior to her mother's death.

Chandler has served as Tasmanian representative on the National Sorry Day Committee.

Chandler's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation, edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
