BiographyHistory

Graves "arrived in Australia in 1925 and found work in the goldfields . He then decided to join the Western Australia Police, but found 800 men waiting for the 25 vacancies. He was offered a place when one man did not pass the medical. Giving his age as 18 instead of 16, he intended to spend a year in uniform but stayed for ten." According to Macartney in his review in All About Books (13/9/1937 p. 135) Graves was 23 when he arrived in Australia.
