BiographyHistory

Shirley Nirrpurranydji grew up on Elco Island and went to the mission school there. Singing in the school choir helped her learn the English language. She also spent a year at Kormilda Boarding College. In 1993 Nirrpurranydji became the principal of Gapuwiyak Community School where she aims to create better educational opportunities for Aboriginal children.
