These two short biographies on Grace Magarey appeared in the Australian Journal in 1938:
'Readers who live in irrigation districts will find a particular interest in 'Water on the Road' by Grace Magarey...In writing of the fruit settlements on the Murray River, Mrs Magarey, a South Australian, is on familiar ground. Some years ago she and her soldier husband took up a fruit block in the Berri district, and, although they no longer live there, she tells us that she has never forgotten the quiet courage and good humour with which the diggers and their wives faced their difficulties. A newcomer to the Journal, Mrs Magarey is assured of a warm welcome...' March 1938 p 388.
'From South Australia
The other portrait is that of Grace Magarey, who made her 'Australian Journal' debut in the last issue with 'Water on the Road' and who is represented this month by 'Better a Dry Morsel' another story of the irrigation settlements with which she is so well acquainted. South Australian readers will be pleased to know that she is one of them.
In this connection, it is a rather curious thing that, although our authors are scattered all over the Commonwealth and New Zealand, very few of them live in South Australia. Mrs. Magarey's work is, therefore, all the more welcome.' April 1938 p 530 (photograph p 531)
