BiographyHistory

Roy Whitecross was a World War II prisoner-of-war in Changi, on the Burma-Thai railway and in Japan. His autobiography, Slaves of the Son of Heaven: A Personal Account of an Australian POW, 1942-1945, sold nearly 200,000 and was frequently reprinted.

Whitecross worked in the New South Wales public service and as assistant registrar at The University of Sydney.
