Mark Fitzpatrick professional football player, actor, writer, and director, was first recognised as a writer at the age of thirteen when he won his first prize in a play writing competition in high school. In 1984, Mark had enrolled in the Sydney Acting School, after his graduation 'he had performed in over forty plays in Australia and written and directed several theatrical production.' Taking up script-writing at the University of Technology Sydney in 1993, Mark was recognised for his edgy, hard-hitting style.
In 1999, Mark had written and directed a short documentary film called 'The Gas Man' which was filmed with Australia's most notorious juvenile prisoners inside a maximum security jail. In that same year, Mark was offered a Hollywood deal by Pacific Western, to purchase the rights for his script 'The Nothing Men'.
As a Director, Mark had directed his short play 'The Poets' in 1998 at Belvoir Street Theatre. Spurred on by this experience, he adapted his feature film script 'The Nothing Men' for a stage production at Newtown Theatre - Mark had also directed and acted in this production.
