— Appears in: Journal of the European Association for Studies on Australia , vol. 2 no. 1 2011; (p. 89-101) 'This article is interested in issues of reading and interpreting Indigenous Australian literature with reference to the role played by language in shaping identities throughout novels written by Australian Indigenous writers. In particular, the analysis will focus on excerpts from Kim Scott's Benang: From the Heart (1999). The article's linguistic analysis will be based on the tenets of functionalist approaches and partnership theory. — Appears in: Le Simplegadi , November no. 7 2009; (p. 66-75) 'In this article I examine one of the early works by Australian Aboriginal writer Kim Scott, True Country. Drawing on studies of "point of view" and "modality", the present work tries to capture the troubled identities of Aboriginal communities in Australia and the process of growth and consciousness undergone by the protagonist. The article also highlights how fictional characters can be shaped and presented through their words and thoughts, thus involving the reader in a dialogistic relationship with the topic treated.
