BiographyHistory

Thomas Simes was sentenced to seven years transportation at the Devon assizes in 1824. He left England on the Hercules on 24 December of that year. Simes gained his ticket of freedom in 1831 and took up work as a teacher. He subsequently found employment as an actor and comedian, taking on roles at the Theatre Royal in Sydney. In May 1838 he was appointed Acting Manager of the Royal Victoria Theatre in Pitt Street, Sydney.
