BiographyHistory

Charles Duguid was educated at Glasgow High School and the University of Glasgow. After graduating in medicine, and practicing in Glasgow, he first travelled to Australia as a ship's medical officer in 1911 and migrated the following year to marry an Australian. After the death of Duguid's first wife, he married another Australian.

A visit to the Northern Territory in 1934 prompted a long and sympathetic engagement with the Pitjantjatjara people and the Ernabella community. Duguid worte of his experiences in No Dying Race (1963) and an autobiography, Doctor and the Aborigines (1972).
