'John Schumann is best known for his role as lead singer and one of the two major songwriters for the legendary Australian socio-political folk-rock band, Redgum ... From 1998 - early 2001, John Schumann was the Chief of Staff for the then Leader of the Australian Democrats, Senator Meg Lees ... In 1998 he took the Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, to postal votes in the once blue ribbon Liberal seat of Mayo [South Australia] ... John Schumann has been the recipient of numerous music and theatre awards including a number of gold and platinum records, 2 Golden Guitars, a Pater Award, a Mo Award and 2 APRA Awards.'
