BiographyHistory

Amelia Edith Barr was a British novelist. She married Calvinist, Robert Barr and they moved to America in 1853. Her husband Robert and three children died in the yellow fever epidemic of 1867. She moved to New York on the advice of Harriet Beecher Stowe, arriving in New York with only five dollars and three daughters to support. Barr contributed to Harper's and the New York Ledger.
