BiographyHistory

William Hamlet trained as a chemist in England and worked in the field until an 1881 visit to South America, where he contracted malaria and then returned to the United Kingdom. Soon afterwards, Hamlet emigrated to Australia, following medical advice that a warmer climate might benefit his health. Arriving in Sydney, Hamlet became Government Analyst in NSW in 1887, a position he occupied until 1916, when he retired.

In 1922, Hamlet published a lengthy poem under the pseudonym Kurrabubula.
