BiographyHistory

Philip Barry was a journalist. A native of Cork, he attended Trinity College Dublin. Following his arrival in Australia, Barry worked on various Melbourne newspapers and also spent a brief period at the Hobart Mercury. At one point he also edited the Ovens Constitution. He was also associated with the literary journal My Note Book.

Barry married Charlotte Rosina Pear at Hobart on 19 October, 1863. Plagued by alcoholism, Barry committed suicide in Melbourne in 1870 during a drinking binge.
