BiographyHistory

Alexander Johnston was a journalist. He was born in Launceston, where his father was the librarian at the Mechanics' Institute. During his career Johnston worked at the Argus, the West Australian, and at the Sydney Morning Herald and Sydney Mail. In the 1920s he became well known for his humorous weekly column which appeared in the Sydney Mail under the name 'Spartacus Smith'.
