BiographyHistory

An 11th-century Anglo-Saxon noblewoman (Godgifu), best known for the legend that she rode naked through the streets of Coventry, cloaked only in her own hair, to induce her husband to left punishing taxes that he had imposed on the people.

Godiva was an historical figure, but the legend of the ride can only be traced back to the 13th century, some centuries after her death.
