BiographyHistory

George Custer served in the cavalry in the American Civil and fought in such battles as Bull Run, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville, and Culpepper Court House. He continued to serve in the cavalry after the war, but was court martialled in 1867 and found guilty of being absent without leave from his command. He was re-instated one year later and, in 1873, was sent to North Dakota. He fought in the Plains Indian wars and was killed at the Battle of Little Bighorn.
