BiographyHistory

Hugh Maclean was born in New Zealand to a Scottish father and an Irish mother. He moved to Melbourne as a boy and worked first for a costumier and then for Old King Cole booksellers. Maclean's drawings and cartoons appeared under a range of nom de plumes including Huia, Torca and ALTSO.
