Franchesca Cubillo grew up in Darwin and moved to Adelaide in her late teens, where she became immersed in Aboriginal affairs especially politics at a time when Aboriginal self-determination was heightened during the Bicentennial year.

After working in the Kimberley region Cubillo moved to Adelaide and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Aboriginal Affairs Administration. After completing her education she returned to Katherine where she worked for Aboriginal Legal Aid for two years. After being awarded a Churchill Fellowship, she travelled in 2006 to New Zealand, Canada, The United States of America and the United Kingdom to visit istitutions that had taken an active role in the repatriation of Indigenous remains.

In 2009 Franchesca was the Senior Curator of Aboriginal Art and Material Culture at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory. She continues to study and educate others on the vitality and knowledge of Aboriginal art, with a particular emphasis on art from Northern and Central Australia.
