BiographyHistory

Alexander Berry trained as a surgeon but decided to pursue a career in merchant shipping. He made several trading voyages to New South Wales before settling in Sydney as a merchant. Berry amassed a vast fortune in NSW, and was possibly Australia's first millionaire. He also spent a period of more than thirty years as an appointed member of the New South Wales Legislative Council.
