The first of the autobiographical titles by Taylor related to his experiences as a prisoner-of-war in Germany during the Second World War. Return Ticket was based on the author's first visit to Germany after his liberation as a prisoner-of-war He had started to write Down to Earth, the third and final volume, after a second visit to Germany in 1974, but this presumably has not been completed/published.
