Author's note: This sketch embodies material from extensive notes I made after a visit to Lawson's country. For my historical facts I am indebted mainly to 'Early Days of Henry Lawson' by the Hon. T. D. Mutch, also to Henry Lawson's unfinished and unpublished autobiography at the Mitchell Library, to Lawson's published prose and verse, to Henry Lawson By His Mates, and to converstaions with the Lawson family.
