      Note/s:
      • Author's note: It is a habit of the day to 'glorify' somebody, consequently the 'beauty chorus', 'Miss Australia', football and cricket champions, race-horses and business magnates pass before our eyes in a spectacular procession.

But I prefer those souls who travel the trackless immensity of the 'Valley of the Sky' - the poets, painters, composers, aye, even the navigators.

So I would glorify the 'Spirit of Endeavour', rather than the mortal flesh, and who personifies that spirit better than the picturesque pioneer Scot, with his kilts and bagpipes, venturing into the great terra incognita of the South.... (p.7). Tarlton Rayment. Savage Club, Melbourne, Australia.
