Eleven-year-old Wilga is the new girl at John Hindmarsh Memorial School in Glenelg. Growing up in Central Australia, she has never learned to swim, and is scared to do so. But her cousin Betty is on the swimming team, and the school is on the sea. The whole school is mad about swimming. If she doesn't learn to swim, Wilga might be outcast forever.
