Sent by his Mummy to collect butter and eggs, Cuthbert the disobedient caterpillar meets up with Wilfred, a mischievous wasp. Wilfred tells Cuthbert that there is 'nothing dashing or adventurous' about collecting eggs and butter, and that he himself is off to see the world and make his fortune (10). So Cuthbert decides to go with him.
