The Source database comments: 'in its first edition, in 1862, this book was illustrated with attractive black and white engravings and is believed to be the first Australian-published illustrated book for children (although there is an earlier book by Walter George Mason with engravings meant for, but unlikely to have been enjoyed by, children). A facsimile edition of this 1st edition was published by The Friends of the State Library of South Australia, 1996 in a limited edition of 500 copies.'
