Notes
-
Originally purchased by the ABC as a television play, in 1962. Brooks noted, at the time of the stage play's production in 1967, that it was set for production in 1963, but postponed by a technical hitch: the ABC had told her that the production was still planned, but had not set a date. (Source: 'Opals Lucky for Writer', Australian Women's Weekly, 26 June 1967, p.9.)
The script was then adapted for radio, and then produced as a stage play. Brooks also re-wrote it as a novel.
Production Details
-
Produced on ABC Radio in late 1967. The stage production pre-dated the radio play, and the relationship between the two scripts is unclear. The Australian Broadcasting Commission's annual report for 1967/1968 describes the radio production as written by Joy Hollyer, based on the novel by Jean Brooks.
