Hodgins speaks about his childhood on a dairy farm at Katandra West, Victoria; attending school in Geelong; being an only child; starting to write poetry; influences on his poems; reads "Leeches" which relates to his leukaemia; effect of leukaemia on his writing; his writing routine; reads "Shooting the Dogs"; writing pastoral poetry; his love of horse riding; treatment of animals; reads "The Title" (Down the Lane with Half a Chook); writers who have influenced him; writing about yourself.
