Notes

  • Dedication: To her who tended me in tend'rest years, Who watched me with affection's partial pride, Whose voice was like a balm to childhood's ears, Who praised me when none others would beside; To her who was my buoyant boyhood's guide, Who looked like leniency when others frowned, Whose springs of a sympathy were never dried, Though coldness came from ev'ry eye around; To her whose name hath blessing in its sound, To my Mother, these Figures of my Fancy are very affectionately inscribed.
