Author note: The play from which [these] choruses (selections only) are taken is one for which I have not yet found a satisfactory title. The speakers are women of various nationalities in the harem of the Persian king in the 6th century B.C., after the conquest of most of the civilised world by Cyrus and his successor. These ladies, for reasons which this is not the place to expound, are somewhat dissatisfied with their situation.
