Note: Author note: In 1833 when Dr Ullathorne was Vicar-General of New South Wales, he visited Bathurst to attend a convict about to be executed. He said Mass for the settlers. In his Autobiography he wrote, 'We generally used the police courts for chapels, but at Bathurst I used the ballroom of the Royal Hotel, built over the stables.'
