Author note: "The following eight poems are set in 6th BC (sic) in the court of King Suddhodana, in Kapilavattu India. They are imaginative depictions of the early life of Siddhattha Gotama, the King's son who left his princely life to become an ascetic and wandering mendicant. He later realised enlightenment and became The Buddha. These poems are centred around Siddhattha's immediate family: King Suddhodana, his father; Queen Pajapati, his aunt and stepmother; and Yasodhara, his wife. Thorughout the poems, I have used the Pali rather than the Sanskrit spellings."
