Apart from this novel's serialisations in The Mofussilite in 1845 and 1861, it is not known to have been published or serialised anywhere until the 2004 edition. John Lang had offered the novel to the London publisher Routledge, and he later used part of it in his serial The Detective, without any reference to the earlier serial.
