  • Most of this autobiography was written in 1877, the year before Lang's death. It was not published until 1972. Chapter 5 was originally published separately as Immigration ; and the Scotch Mechanics of 1831 : Being Chapter V. of a Work in Preparation, to Be Entitled 'Reminiscences of My Life and Times...' (Sydney: Gibbs, Shallard, and Co., [1877]).

    The full autobiography was not published by Lang, but it exists in the form of corrected page proofs (224p.). The Mitchell Library holds the page proofs pp. 97-224, and also holds the original manuscript. The National Library holds pp. 1-192 and pp. 209-224.
