'Le Dernier Caravanserail : Odyssees' is in two parts: part one, The Cruel River, tells of people fleeing their homelands; part two, Origins and Destinies, is about the disappointments and longings of refugees as they fall foul of bureaucracies. Part two begins with the tableau, On the Way to Australia.

Notes

  • English translation of the title: The Last Caravanserail : Odysseus.
  • In 2002, while visiting Australia, Ariane Mnouchkine and members of Theatre du Soleil interviewed asylum seekers in the Villawood Detention Centre. Over 100 hours of taped interviews form the basis of 'Le Dernier Caravanserail : Odyssees'.
