Censorship Agencies: Literature Censorship Board
Decision: 6 Mar 1941
NAA Source: A3023; Folder 1941-1944
Censorship notes: 'Quite possibly the book was written in good faith, being intended as a purely objective study of low life: but if such was the motive it is unsuccessful. It has been said that its tone would not appeal either to the purely literary or the purely salacious: but it would appeal to an intermediate class which mistakes shoddy for literature and pornography for studies of the sex life.' (L. H. Allen, Chair of the Literature Censorship Board).
Censorship notes: Released at the time of the general review 24.04.1958.
