Dedication: To my former colleagues, honestly slogging it out against the odds, twenty-four hours a day, picking up the pieces of shattered lives and wrestling through an impossible system of justice while trying to keep their own integrity intact. And to the truly brave whistle-blowers, witnesses and their families, who, like me, have risked their lives in the fight against organised crime and corruption. A sickly culture refers to these people as 'rats' but they are heroes.
